Teaching Internship

Instructions for Course Enrollment

Enrollment must be requested from the Program’s Delegate Committee at least 7 days before the beginning of the quarter in which the student intends to carry out the teaching internship.

To request enrollment, the student must:

  • Fill out the Teaching Internship Request Form, including a detailed description of the activities to be developed by the student;
  • Collect the signatures of (1) the advisor, (2) the professor responsible for the undergraduate course in which the internship will be carried out, and (3) the head of department (via emb.jve@contato.ufsc.br); and
  • Send the request to the Program Office email (ppgese@contato.ufsc.br), bearing in mind that:

The Teaching Internship course must be completed by students with the following workload:
I – Teaching Internship I (1 credit = 15 hrs), with a work plan including 3 to 5 hours of theoretical, theoretical-practical, or practical lectures in an undergraduate course with at least 2 credits;
II – Teaching Internship II (2 credits = 30 hrs), with a work plan including 8 to 10 hours of theoretical, theoretical-practical, or practical lectures in an undergraduate course with at least 3 credits;
III – Teaching Internship III (3 credits = 45 hrs), with a work plan including 12 to 15 hours of theoretical, theoretical-practical, or practical lectures in an undergraduate course with at least 4 credits.

The student must await the decision of the PPGESE Committee, in accordance with Article 8 of Normative Resolution nº 3/CPG/2021. If the internship plan is approved, the Program Office will register the course in the CAPG system.


Teaching Internship Evaluation

At the end of the Teaching Internship, the student must prepare a Teaching Internship Report, which must be submitted to the supervising professor.

The supervising professor will fill out the Evaluation Form included in the report, assign a grade based on the student’s performance, and forward it to the PPGESE Coordinator via the Program Office email.

Resolution nº 05/PPGESE/2018 – Regulates the Teaching Internship in the PPGESE Master’s program.

Regulation of the Social Demand Program (CAPES)
The rules for the Teaching Internship were established by the Regulation of the Social Demand Program (DS) – annex to Ordinance nº 76, April 14, 2010, which outlines the Program’s objectives and scholarship granting criteria:

Art. 18. The teaching internship is an integral part of the graduate student’s training, aiming at preparation for teaching and the improvement of undergraduate education. It is mandatory for all scholarship holders of the Social Demand Program, following these criteria:
I – For programs offering both master’s and doctoral levels, the requirement applies only to the doctorate;
II – For programs offering only the master’s level, the teaching internship requirement applies to the master’s;
III – Institutions without undergraduate courses must partner with other higher education institutions to meet the teaching internship requirement;
IV – The teaching internship may be paid at the institution’s discretion, but CAPES funds may not be used for this purpose;
V – The minimum duration of the teaching internship shall be one semester for the master’s and two semesters for the doctorate. The maximum duration shall be two semesters for the master’s and three semesters for the doctorate;
VI – It is the responsibility of the CAPES/DS Scholarship Committee to record and evaluate the teaching internship for graduate credit purposes, as well as to define the supervision and monitoring of the internship;
VII – Higher education faculty members who can prove equivalent teaching activities will be exempt from the teaching internship;
VIII – The teaching internship activities must be compatible with the research area of the graduate program;
IX – When formally agreed upon between education systems by the competent authorities, and provided the other conditions in this article are met, the teaching internship may be carried out in the public secondary education system;
X – The maximum teaching internship workload shall be 4 hours per week.

Art. 19. Omissions shall be resolved by CAPES.
